It can get a bit confusing keeping up to date with what state you’re in when you visit areas around Washington DC.
Known as the “DMV,” the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia intersect right by the United States capital. A short ride over the Potomac River from Washington DC is Alexandria.
Depending on which part of the city you’re in, it can feel like you’re in a quiet country town or the outer suburb of a larger city.
If you’ve read my article about Mount Vernon, you’ll know there’s no shortage of things to absorb as a history lover.
But there are plenty of other things to do even if you’re only popping by for the day.

3. Friends to Lovers: The bookstore with an amazing story of its own
Just days after opening her dream bookstore, Jamie Fortin faced a devastating setback when fire swept through her building, leaving smoke-damaged books and merchandise unsellable.
With donations and encouragement from fellow small business owners and romance readers, she reopened in a temporary pop-up location while searching for a new permanent home, determined to rebuild her store from the ashes.
Friends to Lovers is now open in a totally new spot, providing a space for book lovers and members of the LGBTI community to be themselves and immerse themselves in culture.
