Air New Zealand has officially launched Koru, a refreshed loyalty programme replacing the longstanding Airpoints system, with more than five million members transitioning to the new platform.

Scott Wilkinson, Air New Zealand Chief Commercial Officer, said the changes were a direct response to customer feedback.

“We’ve listened closely to our members. They told us they want a simpler programme with clear, relevant benefits, and Koru is our response. Travel means different things to everyone and we want people to feel recognised in a way that reflects that,” Mr Wilkinson said.

Existing Airpoints and Status Points will carry across to the new programme, with members mapped into equivalent Koru tiers.

Current Airpoints Gold members will transition to Koru Gold, which includes milestone Status Rewards and two Recognition Upgrades per membership year allowing members to move up one cabin class.

The programme introduces four tiers. Koru Bronze provides a simple starting point for new members, with earning opportunities across more than 40 partners spanning fuel, groceries, retail and financial services.

Koru Gold and Koru Platinum offer increased benefits, while Koru Black recognises the airline’s most frequent travellers with personalised rewards and the ability to share benefits with friends or family through Koru Circle.

Status Retain, launching later this month, will provide additional support for members with Koru Gold, Platinum or Black status who fall just short of their renewal threshold.

Looking ahead, construction on a new Koru Premier Lounge at Auckland International Airport is due to begin later this year, with the footprint set to nearly double in size.
