Most travellers know Song Saa Private Island as Cambodia’s premier wellness retreat. But there is far more to this award-winning resort in the Koh Rong Archipelago than stillness and spa treatments.
Melita Koulmandas, Song Saa Private Island founder, said the resort had always been about connection.
“What has evolved here is a way for guests to experience that connection not only through stillness, but through discovery, movement and engagement with the world around them,” Ms Koulmandas said.
Set within the protected waters of the Koh Rong Marine National Park across two jungle-covered islands connected by a footbridge, the resort offers direct access to one of Cambodia’s most biodiverse coastal environments, where rainforest, reef systems and island communities exist in close proximity.

Out on the water, guided snorkelling and marine encounters take place alongside scientists from the Song Saa Foundation, who point out rare seahorses, coral formations and the shifting ecology of the reef. Further offshore, a bioluminescent swim reveals a hidden site in the outer archipelago where movement through the water triggers glowing plankton beneath the surface, transforming the sea into a field of light.
On land, guests can choose from waterfall hikes through wild terrain, jungle foraging walks and jungle-to-jar workshops, monk blessings, island-hopping excursions, coral restoration workshops and treasure hunts for families.
The newly launched Saraan Sanctuaries wellness centre anchors the broader island experience, integrating indigenous botanicals, ocean-facing yoga and meditation into a philosophy where restoration and exploration exist within the same environment.
