Virgin Australia will launch its first Pets in Cabin flight from Adelaide on June 23, with services now open for booking on routes between Adelaide and Melbourne and Adelaide and the Gold Coast.
Libby Minogue, Virgin Australia Chief Marketing and Customer Operations Officer, said the expansion reflected the overwhelming response to the service since its launch.
“Pets are part of the family, and we know how important it is for many Australians to be able to travel with them interstate. Almost 1,500 pets have taken to the skies since the program launched in October,” Ms Minogue said.
The inaugural Adelaide departure, flight VA218, will take off for Melbourne at 11:50am on June 23, with a special send-off planned at the departure gate.

Adelaide and Melbourne services are available to book for travel until January 31, 2027, making it an option for the Christmas and summer holiday season. All other routes are available to book until September 30, 2026. Eligible pets travel for $149 per animal per flight, or 18,600 Velocity Points per sector.
Small dogs and cats weighing under 8kg combined with their carrier are eligible to travel. Pets must remain in an approved soft-sided carrier stowed under the seat for the duration of the flight. A limit of four pets is permitted per flight.
Subject to final airport approvals, Virgin Australia intends to make Pets in Cabin a standard offering on eligible services from next year.
