Australian domestic flight prices have dropped 12 per cent compared to the same period last year, while international airfares are down 11 per cent, according to new data from travel search engine KAYAK.

The findings come as KAYAK launches its new Flight Price Trends Dashboard, a weekly tool tracking how flight prices are changing across domestic and international destinations, updated every Tuesday with week-over-week and year-over-year comparisons.

Paul Jacobs, KAYAK GM and SVP APAC, said price trends were evolving differently across routes and the dashboard helped travellers make more confident decisions.

“Flights to destinations like Denpasar (Bali), Singapore or Tokyo have been trending down for weeks. Looking at how prices are changing week to week can help travellers make more confident decisions about when and where to travel,” Mr Jacobs said.

The dashboard offers weekly airfare trends for both domestic and international travel, year-on-year comparisons to 2025 and city-level data across popular destinations. Data is tracked from the first full week of January 2026.

To make the most of shifting prices, KAYAK recommends using its Flexible Dates tool to compare midweek versus weekend fares, setting up Price Alerts to book when fares drop and using the Explore tool to find destinations that fit a given budget.
