Two new self-guided itineraries from UTracks will take walkers along the renowned E5 Alpine Crossing between Oberstdorf in Germany and Merano in northern Italy.
The eight-day journey covers more than 100 kilometres across Germany, Austria and Italy.
The route forms the best known Alpine section of the wider European E5, which stretches around 3,200 kilometres from France’s Atlantic coast to Verona. Walkers pass through mountain passes, alpine meadows, ridgelines and traditional villages.
Highlights include crossing the Mädelejoch Pass into Austria, traversing the Venet massif and climbing to Pitztaler Jöchl, the highest point of the journey.
The final descent passes beneath the Hirzer massif before reaching the vineyards and orchards surrounding Merano.
Both itineraries include daily luggage transfers, allowing travellers to walk with a daypack. UTracks offers a standard itinerary and a Comfort version featuring upgraded hotel accommodation, with spa facilities and pools available at selected properties.
