Terra Nova Expeditions has secured a replacement expedition vessel for its upcoming Antarctic program after the continuing situation in the Middle East prevented St Helena from repositioning in time for the 2026/27 season.
The company will instead operate the newly named Terra Nova Adventurer, formerly MS Expedition and G Expedition, across the next three Antarctic seasons through 2028/29.
The vessel has an extensive history of expedition cruising in Antarctica and the Arctic, with features designed for polar operations including enhanced ice capability, a large expedition mudroom and direct Zodiac boarding arrangements.
Greg Carter, Terra Nova Expeditions Founder and CEO, said securing the ship for several seasons had provided greater certainty following months spent arranging an alternative.
“Securing Terra Nova Adventurer for not just one but three Antarctic seasons gives us the opportunity to turn an unexpected challenge into an exciting new chapter for Terra Nova,” Mr Carter said.
Before entering service with the company the ship will undergo a series of onboard updates including new furnishings and décor, remodelled bar and lounge areas and the addition of a Jacuzzi and sauna.
Existing facilities include observation areas, a lounge, library, spa and gym, while the expedition infrastructure will support activities such as kayaking, snowshoeing and photography workshops.
Terra Nova Expeditions said its planned Antarctic itineraries will continue aboard the replacement vessel, with guests whose individual reservations require changes being contacted directly.
“The vessel may be changing but the reason people travel with us is not,” Mr Carter said. “Antarctica, the expedition experience and the team behind it remain at the heart of what we do.”
Terra Nova Adventurer will begin operating for the company during the 2026/27 Antarctic season and is expected to remain in the program through 2028/29.
