Retired U.S. Air Force General Lori J. Robinson has been named godmother of Legend of the Seas, with the ship’s naming ceremony scheduled for November 11 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
General Robinson was the first woman to lead a U.S. combatant command and previously headed both NORAD and U.S. Northern Command.
She will join Royal Caribbean executives, crew and guests for the traditional naming ceremony, which will coincide with Veterans Day in the United States.
As godmother, General Robinson will take part in the maritime tradition of bestowing safekeeping on the ship, its crew and future guests.
Legend of the Seas will begin sailing from Fort Lauderdale in November, operating six-night Western Caribbean and eight-night Southern Caribbean itineraries.
The program will include calls in destinations such as Aruba and Curaçao, with every sailing also visiting Perfect Day CocoCay in The Bahamas.
The new ship will feature 28 dining options, seven pools and a range of entertainment and family attractions. These include Crown’s Edge, combining a skywalk and zip line 46 metres above the ocean, along with America’s Got Talent LIVE on Legend of the Seas and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Dining venues will include Royal Railway – Legend Station and Hollywoodland Supper Club, while the ship’s pool offering will include family areas, adults only spaces and Swim & Tonic swim up bar.
