Some of Australia’s best-known chefs will take their cooking skills to sea in a new television series combining cruise travel, local food experiences and large-scale galley challenges.
Chefs Ahoy premieres on September 30 at 8.45pm on Channel 9 and 9Now, with Peter Helliar hosting as two chefs per episode compete aboard Princess Cruises ships.
Each episode begins in port, where the chefs explore local food traditions before returning to the ship to adapt their ideas for thousands of passengers.
The competition culminates in ‘The Captain’s Dinner’, where guests decide the winner.
The series travels through Greece, Japan, Spain and South Korea, with competitions staged aboard Sun Princess and Diamond Princess.
In Greece, Minoli De Silva faces Courtney Roulston after exploring Crete, while Miguel Maestre competes against Dan Hong following a food-focused visit to Japan.
Mark LaBrooy and Khanh Ong take on Barcelona’s food scene before cooking aboard Sun Princess, while Vincent Yeow Lim and Alice Zaslavsky explore Busan and Korean culinary traditions before their challenge aboard Diamond Princess.
The chefs must work within unfamiliar ship galleys while scaling dishes for up to 4,000 passengers, adding a logistical element beyond the usual cooking competition format.
