Intrepid Travel is adding six new trips to its existing rail range as it welcomes the growing demand for slow, meaningful travel.

Spanning four continents and ranging from nine to 11 days in duration, the new trips include journeys on public rail networks through Vietnam, China, Laos, Malaysia, Kenya, Eastern Canada and Northern Sweden.

Since the launch of Intrepid’s dedicated rail range in 2024, it has seen a +24% growth in bookings year-on-year, as demand for train-focused trips continues to rise.

There are no internal flights, rather travellers will spend more time interacting with locals and fellow passengers, seeing more of the countryside and venturing to less-visited places.

The six new trips build on Intrepid’s pre-existing rail range, which now features 50 trips. The new trips include:

# Kenya by Rail: Trains, Safari and Beaches (10 days) $7,300: Travellers have the chance to spot zebras and elephants from the window as they pass through two of Kenya’s national parks on the Madaraka Express.

# Malaysia’s Jungle Railway (10 days) $2,995: A fascinating journey through remote, lesser-known parts of Malaysia, where jungles and limestone cliffs line the route.

# China & Laos: Kunming to Bangkok by Rail (11 days) $3,495: Travel on the first cross border bullet train from China through Laos and then onwards to Bangkok by overnight train on an overland trip.

# Vietnam & China – Hanoi to Kunming by Rail (11 days) $2,995: Journey through Vietnam’s Sapa region  to China, coming close to Tibetan culture in Shangri-La before travelling to Tiger Leaping Gorge to hike on one of the best trails in Asia.

# Northern Sweden by Rail (9 days) $5,970: Travel through Abisko National Park and never-ending tundra, while stopping at remote villages and outposts as you near the polar circle.

# Eastern Canada by Rail (10 days) $6,825: Journey from Toronto to Montreal, exploring the major cities of Eastern Canada, visiting the Thousand Islands, Ottawa and Quebec along the way.

“Rail travel has taken off in the past couple of years and for good reason,” said Erica Kritikides, General Manager of Experiences at Intrepid Travel.

“In a world that feels like it’s always going at full steam, rail travel provides ease, convenience and a slower pace.

“The latest additions to our popular rail range are some of our most exciting yet, traversing both iconic and lesser-known routes and providing access to new places and experiences.”
