According to the findings from vacation rentals platform Deluxe Holiday Homes, towels rank first, with nearly 88% of hotel staff reporting guests frequently take them.
Bathrobes come in second with nearly 66% of hotel owners reporting them taken, with hangers the third most stolen item.
More than half of hotel toiletries don’t stay in the rooms, as 53% of hotel staff report seeing visitors walk out with them.
Pens are the most snatched freebies, with more than 21% of hotel owners saying these branded items regularly disappear from rooms.
The survey interviewed 1,239 hotel staff members and owners, with each item receiving a percentage score based on how many hotel employees identified it as commonly taken.
“Hotels lose more money replacing towels than any other stolen item,” a hospitality expert from Deluxe Holiday Homes revealed.
“Sometimes guests think the bathrobes are free to take, but that’s never true. They are actually quite luxurious items, costing hotels at least $50 each.”
