Australian travellers are increasingly looking to Asia for their Easter getaways, with new Booking.com data revealing a growing appetite for culturally driven travel experiences.
Nine out of the top 10 international destinations searched for the Easter long weekend are in Asia, highlighting a clear shift in travel preferences.
Tokyo, Seoul and Singapore lead the list, with Japan continuing to attract visitors during cherry blossom season and traditional festivals.
Seoul And Nusa Dua Surge In Popularity
Seoul and Nusa Dua are the biggest movers year on year, each climbing 14 places in search rankings. Seoul has also risen 17 spots in combined rankings, signalling strong momentum.
Joanne Whitby Lee, APAC Home Area Manager, Booking.com, said the trend reflects changing traveller priorities.
“Booking.com search data shows Australians are increasingly using the Easter long weekend to travel within Asia,” she said.
Food And Culture Driving Decisions
Cultural experiences are playing a key role in travel planning, with 17 per cent of Australians choosing destinations based on unique cultural offerings.
Food is also a major driver. Booking.com research shows 82 per cent of travellers have chosen a destination specifically to visit a restaurant, while 85 per cent visit local markets and cook during their stay.
“Aussies are also travelling this Easter with their taste buds, especially when staying in homes or apartments,” Ms Whitby Lee said.
Domestic Favourites Remain Strong
Closer to home, the Gold Coast remains the most popular domestic destination, followed by Sydney and Melbourne.
Adelaide and Byron Bay have seen strong growth, climbing 18 and 20 places respectively, as travellers look for diverse local experiences.
The data highlights a broader shift toward more meaningful travel, with Australians prioritising culture, cuisine and immersive experiences over traditional holiday choices.
