The Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF), Accommodation Australia (AA) and the Caravan Industry Association of Australia (CIAA) are calling urgently for the development of a national fuel information platform in the wake of ongoing fuel uncertainty.
This is as part of a push to address Australia’s fragmented fuel pricing system and help motorists to know where they can get fuel on longer road trips.
“Growing uncertainty around fuel availability is strangling regional drive holidays and impacting hugely on the businesses and communities that support the sector,” said Margy Osmond, TTF CEO.
“We would like to see the immediate establishment of a working group made up of the states, territories and industry players in the tourism and automobile sectors to deliver this outcome urgently.
“It has the added benefit of being a great legacy item to support regional tourism and drive holidays beyond this current crisis.”
Tourism contributed $192.4 billion in total expenditure (year ending December 2025) and supported more than 737,000 jobs nationwide (December 2025), with better access to reliable fuel information expected to support continued growth by making travel planning simpler and more predictable.
“This platform should be widely promoted to the driving public and provide real-time information on fuel availability and pricing across all regions,” added Ms Osmond.
“It would allow travellers to know where petrol is available and at what price throughout their journey anywhere in the country.
“Improving fuel transparency is expected to help restore certainty for road users, at a time when cost pressures continue to influence how and where Australians choose to travel.”
