Carnival Cruise Line has confirmed a major fleet deployment update, announcing that Carnival Adventure will begin sailing seasonally from Australia from April 2028 before repositioning to North America for the northern hemisphere summer.
The cruise line said all currently published voyages remain on sale and will operate as scheduled.
Despite the change, Carnival stressed it remains the only cruise line maintaining a year-round presence in the Australian market. However, the company cited stronger market conditions overseas and an uncertain regulatory landscape in Australia and New Zealand as key factors behind the move.
“We’re proud of our long-standing commitment to this market. It is business as usual with Carnival Cruise Line operating from more homeports across Australia and New Zealand in 2027/28 than ever before, so there are plenty of attractive itineraries for our guests,” said Country Manager Peter Little.
Over the next two years, the line expects to welcome approximately 1.2 million guests across around 400 voyages, continuing its year-round sailings to destinations across the region.
Carnival Adventure will relocate to North America in April 2028 after completing her scheduled Australian program.
Mr Little said Carnival was experiencing stronger booking momentum and greater governmental support in other major global tourism markets.
“In this context, Carnival is adjusting its deployment to better capture greater opportunities elsewhere, while continuing to champion a more competitive and certain operating environment – matters we’ve long emphasised,” he said.
Carnival also highlighted the cruise sector’s economic contribution to Australia, supporting 22,000 jobs and generating more than $7 billion in economic activity for travel agents, tour operators, food producers and transport providers nationwide.
The announcement signals a strategic shift in deployment, even as Carnival maintains its long-term presence in the region.
