A new luxury cruise ship will join Japan’s domestic cruise market in September, with Australian travellers offered fly free packages on selected 2027 voyages.
Mitsui Ocean Sakura, formerly Seabourn Sojourn, will debut on September 19 as sister ship to Mitsui Ocean Fuji, which entered service in late 2024 after previously sailing as Seabourn Odyssey.
Both ships accommodate 458 guests, with all suite accommodation and ocean views. Around 90% of suites feature private balconies, while onboard facilities include Japanese dining, lounges, a theatre, wellness facilities, pools and jacuzzis.
The cruise experience focuses on Japanese culture, cuisine and hospitality, with itineraries visiting smaller ports and destinations around the country.
Joe O’Sullivan, Cruise Traveller Managing Director, said the product offered advisors another way to sell Japan to travellers interested in culture, history and smaller ship cruising.
“A journey with Mitsui Ocean Cruises is a curated, cultural discovery experience, blending small-ship intimacy and personal service with meaningful encounters and authentic local insight,” Mr O’Sullivan said.
To mark the new ship’s arrival, Cruise Traveller has released five packages for April and September 2027 aboard Mitsui Ocean Sakura and Mitsui Ocean Fuji, with return flights to Tokyo from Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane included.
Packages range from seven- to 12-nights and start from $8,799 per person twin share in a Veranda Suite.
One featured voyage is a nine-night roundtrip sailing from Yokohama aboard Mitsui Ocean Sakura, departing September 17, 2027, and visiting Senzaki, Tottori, Nanao, Kuji and Oarai.
The package starts from $11,299 per person twin share and includes selected shore excursions, onboard beverages and Wi-Fi. Free return flights apply when booked through Cruise Traveller by November 30.
