World Expeditions has introduced a new 12-day adventure through Mongolia’s Gobi Desert.

Led by Australian palaeontologist and archaeologist Sally Hurst, the small-group journey departs on August 23, 2027.

The ‘Mongolia: Fossils, Landscapes & Lost Worlds’ itinerary visits the Flaming Cliffs, Nemegt Basin and remote Khermen Tsav.

Travellers will explore significant dinosaur fossil regions and discover Mongolia’s prehistoric landscapes.

Ms Hurst will share insights into fossil discoveries and explain how scientists uncover clues about ancient life.

The journey is designed for travellers interested in dinosaurs, natural history and geology. No technical excavation experience is required.

“There’s something incredibly powerful about standing in the landscape and beginning to understand what was here millions of years before us,” Ms Hurst said.

Beyond fossil sites, travellers will hike through Gobi canyons and explore the Khongoriin Els sand dunes. The itinerary also includes meeting local herders and experiencing Mongolia’s nomadic culture.

Limited to 14 travellers, the expedition runs from August 23 to September 3. Prices start from $7,490 per person twin share. Accommodation includes hotels, traditional ger camps and remote desert cabins.

The journey begins and ends in Ulaanbaatar and has a minimum age of 18 years. Departure dates may vary slightly pending domestic airline schedules.
