A new chapter in the story of the Sydney Harbour Bridge has officially begun, with BridgeClimb Sydney unveiling the all-new BridgeMuseum, an immersive attraction built inside the landmark’s original south-east pylon.

The reimagined experience transforms the former Pylon Lookout & Museum into a modern cultural tourism attraction, offering visitors a deeper look into the engineering, history and human stories behind one of Australia’s most recognisable structures.

The revitalised museum blends interactive technology, multimedia storytelling and historical artefacts to bring the Bridge’s past and present vividly to life.

“The BridgeMuseum has always been one of Sydney’s hidden gems,” said Deb Zimmer, BridgeClimb Sydney CEO.

“With this transformation, we’re proud to officially open a new world-class cultural tourism experience for Australia — providing another connection to the Sydney Harbour Bridge for locals and tourists from around the world.”

The attraction offers a self-guided multilingual experience, with translations available in Mandarin, Korean, French, German and Japanese, helping broaden its appeal to international visitors.

Inside the museum, guests can explore the Bridge’s origins during the 1920s and 1930s, discover stories from its construction and learn about its evolving role in Sydney’s identity.

The south-east pylon has worn many hats since opening to the public in 1934, having served as a military lookout during the Second World War, a post office and even home to a family of white cats.

Adding another layer to the experience, First Nations storytelling has been woven throughout the museum in collaboration with Indigenous design agency Balarinji.

Gadigal perspectives and connections to Country feature prominently, highlighting the harbour’s cultural significance long before the Bridge was built.

Zimmer said the museum now complements the BridgeClimb experience by offering visitors two distinct ways to connect with the famous structure.

“BridgeClimb offers the thrill and perspective of standing atop the Sydney Harbour Bridge, guided by experts and surrounded by breathtaking 360-degree views,” she said.

“The BridgeMuseum brings the story to life from within — revealing the history, innovation and human stories behind the steel.”

Visitors can also upgrade to SkyHouse After Hours, a premium twilight experience held 87 metres above sea level within the Bridge itself, complete with beverages and canapés. The venue will also be available for private events and corporate functions.

The project was delivered with support from Transport for NSW and approval from the Heritage Council of NSW, balancing heritage preservation with a fresh visitor experience.
