Luxury beach stays and cruising are leading the way on Australians’ 2026 travel wish lists, according to new research from iSelect.

More than a third of Aussies (36.4%) ranked a luxury resort stay as their ultimate holiday experience, followed by visiting world wonders such as Machu Picchu, Great Wall of China and Taj Mahal (32.6%). Close behind, 32.3% are dreaming of a cruise holiday.

Cross-country road trips, safari adventures and iconic hikes including the Camino de Santiago also made the top five.

Generational trends reveal Gen X travellers favour indulgent, laid-back escapes, while Millennials and Gen Z lean towards adventure experiences. Baby Boomers, meanwhile, ranked cruising as their number one bucket list trip, with 41% keen to set sail.

With such varied plans on the horizon, iSelect’s experts are urging travellers to ensure their travel insurance matches their itinerary — particularly for higher-risk activities and cruising.
