Australian travel advisors specialising in immersive, cultural and community-based travel are being invited to apply for a December famil to Nepal’s Upper Mustang region.
The 12-day ‘Upper Mustang: A Trans-Himalayan Community Experience’ will run from December 5 to 16, with ground arrangements covered by Community Homestay Network. Flights are at participants’ own expense and applications close on October 30.
The famil follows severe flooding in Nepal in August, with the organisation aiming to reinforce that tourism is operating and that local communities continue to rely on visitor spending during the peak season.

The itinerary begins in Kathmandu before travelling through the Annapurna foothills and into Upper Mustang by four-wheel drive.
Advisors will visit communities including Narchyang, Kagbeni, Lubra and Hemjakot, explore the Sky Caves of Chhoser and spend time in Lo Manthang, the walled former capital of the Kingdom of Lo.
Shiva Dhakal, Community Homestay Network Founder, said the trip was designed to introduce advisors to lesser-known parts of Nepal while supporting local communities.
“Travelling with Community Homestay Network means seeing a different side of Nepal, in a way that supports and empowers local people in lesser-known parts of the country,” Mr Dhakal said.

The organisation has also introduced its first fixed-departure itineraries for agents to sell, with eight multi-day programs and more than 100 departures available through December 2027.
