The Australian Tourism Industry Council has appointed Tom Salom as Independent Director – Chair, strengthening its governance as the national body continues to develop its role within Australia’s tourism industry.

Mr Salom will work with Erin McLeod, ATIC CEO, and the existing Board to guide the organisation’s strategic direction, with a particular focus on Board governance, independence and oversight.

His responsibilities will include supporting the effective functioning of the Board and providing governance support to the CEO as ATIC continues to represent tourism operators nationally.

The organisation’s priorities include providing practical tools to thousands of tourism businesses and maintaining a national industry voice, alongside continued development of its Quality Tourism Accreditation Framework.

Mr Salom succeeds Evan Hall, who will remain an ATIC Board Member following his term as Chair.

ATIC credited Mr Hall with strengthening the organisation’s advocacy role and overseeing improvements to its accreditation framework. He will continue to support targeted policy and advocacy work alongside the wider Board.

The appointment comes as ATIC continues to shape its strategic priorities around industry representation, business support and governance.
