A new six acre waterpark will open at Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas on September 4, adding a major bookable shore experience for guests sailing on Norwegian Cruise Line’s Caribbean itineraries.

Great Tides Waterpark will feature 19 waterslides, including the Caribbean’s only four person body slide and duelling uphill slides using high pressure water jets. Cliffside Cove will also offer two jumps positioned 10 and 15 feet above the water.

The Wandering River will include an enclosed floating tunnel, while Splash Cay will provide a separate play area for families with younger children. Private cabanas accommodating up to six people will be available and include waterpark admission.

New food outlets will serve barbecue, seafood and desserts, supported by complimentary buffet options. Two bars will allow guests to order drinks without moving far from the water, including one located within the river attraction.

Guests travelling with an eligible Free at Sea beverage package will be able to use their drinks inclusion at Great Stirrup Cay. Separate relaxation options include the adults only Vibe Shore Club, beachfront cabanas and the existing Silver Cove area.

The opening forms part of a wider redevelopment of the 270 acre private island. A new two berth pier is already operating, allowing cruise ships to dock directly and reducing the time passengers previously spent transferring ashore on tender boats.

Marc Kazlauskas, Norwegian Cruise Line President, said the development was intended to offer a broader mix of family activities, higher energy attractions and places to relax during a port visit.

“From adrenaline pumping attractions and family friendly activities to unique dining experiences and places to relax, Great Tides Waterpark will showcase the innovative design, scale and adventure that await guests visiting the island,” Mr Kazlauskas said.

The opening celebration will take place during Norwegian Luna’s seven night Caribbean voyage departing August 29. Day passes are now available for eligible voyages visiting Great Stirrup Cay from September and can be added after the cruise booking is completed.
