Key overseas tourism operators and travel agents were treated to a look at the new Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) last week.
The visit was hosted by Destination New South Wales ahead of the first passenger flights landing in October.
The exclusive preview provided valuable insight into the terminal’s facilities and the surrounding visitor economy infrastructure.
Sydney’s new 24-hour domestic, international and cargo airport is in Western Sydney, Australia’s fastest growing and third largest economy.
WSI has confirmed four major launch airline partners: Qantas, Jetstar, Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand. Flight schedules and information about ticket sales will be released in the coming weeks.
The familiarisation was designed to help partners prepare new itineraries and products ahead of the airport’s official opening.
To celebrate Australia’s most significant aviation project in more than 50 years, the public will have unprecedented access for one day to the runway at WSI.
On April 26, Australia’s newest international gateway will host a unique Runway Run/Walk, with runners and walkers from across the country, invited to participate in an historic event in support of Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation (SCHF).
Mark Emerton, CEO of Elite Energy Events, said that Runway Run/Walk’s location ensures that it will be a unique community and sporting event and an equally important opportunity to help change the future for sick kids.
“Once aviation operations commence at Western Sydney International Airport, this level of community access will no longer be possible because it is a 24/7 international airport,” he added.
Participants are encouraged to register early at www.runwayrun.com.au
