Australia’s Red Centre is set to receive a major uplift, with the Federal Government committing $7.5 million to strengthen and enhance tourism experiences across the region.

From the sweeping landscapes of Uluru and Kata Tjuta to the dramatic ridges of Kings Canyon, the Red Centre remains one of Australia’s most iconic destinations. The new funding aims to support tourism operators, bolster local jobs and build on the unique connection between the region’s natural environment and its First Nations communities.

The investment forms part of an $8.5 million funding package announced late last year, which included a $1 million Alice Springs Revival and Resilience grant program.

That initiative saw 30 small businesses in Alice Springs and the MacDonnell region each receive more than $33,000 to help revitalise operations and strengthen local tourism.

Tourism Central Australia (TCA) will receive up to $5 million over two years under the new Red Centre Marketing Boost. The funding will be used to attract domestic and international travellers through targeted campaigns designed to grow visitor numbers and spending.

A further $2.5 million will be made available through the Red Centre Tourism Development Fund, providing grants to develop new tourism experiences or upgrade existing ones. The funding will support projects offering bookable experiences, events, tours and upgraded accommodation for visitors.

Minister for Trade and Tourism Don Farrell said the investment was part of the government’s broader commitment to regional tourism.

“We are delivering on our election commitment to invest in the Red Centre, support local jobs and boost the local economy,” Senator Farrell said.
“These new grants will help local tourism operators expand their offerings while sharing the region’s remarkable story with the world.”

Minister for Indigenous Australians Malarndirri McCarthy added that the funding would empower local, often Indigenous-led, businesses to showcase their home to a global audience.

“Central Australia is one of the most special places in the country,” she said. “This funding gives operators the confidence to create new experiences, support local jobs and build a stronger future shaped by people who know the Red Centre best.”

Applications for the new grant programs are now open. Details are available through Austrade at austrade.gov.au.
