Pacific island destinations are attracting some of the highest levels of online travel interest compared with actual visitor numbers, according to new research from AllClear Travel Insurance.
The study compared more than 37 million global Google searches with official tourist arrivals across 162 destinations.
Tuvalu ranked first, recording 327 holiday searches for every 100 visitors, followed by Kiribati with 153 and Bermuda with 135.
Seven of the top 15 destinations were in the Pacific, including the Solomon Islands in fifth place, Niue in eighth, New Caledonia in ninth, Palau in 10th and the Cook Islands in 11th.
Only five destinations recorded more holiday searches than actual visitors: Tuvalu, Kiribati, Bermuda, Montserrat and the Solomon Islands.
The Maldives generated the highest overall search volume among the top 15 destinations, with more than 1.2 million annual searches, placing it 12th when measured against visitor numbers.
Letitia Smith, AllClear Travel Insurance Head of Communications, said remote destinations often attract strong interest while factors such as cost, distance and travel logistics can prevent travellers from making the trip.
“We all have that one destination we’ve wanted to go to for years and for lots of people it stays on the wish list,” she added.
“Our research shows just how much online interest some places attract compared with how many people actually make the trip, especially the far-flung, remote islands that can be tricky to commit to.”
The research analysed global searches for four travel-related terms and compared them with the latest available official full-year visitor figures from 2023 to 2025.
