Tourism officials have welcomed the launch of a second weekly direct Solomon Airlines service from Brisbane to Espiritu Santo in Vanuatu.

The move doubles air capacity on the route and makes it easier than ever for Australians to explore Vanuatu’s largest island.

The expanded schedule, which began on April 4, gives travellers the flexibility to choose between a full week island escape or a long weekend getaway, with a flight time of just tw0-and-a-half hours from Brisbane.

Adela Issachar Aru, Vanuatu Tourism Office CEO, said the additional service was an important step forward for the islands.

“Improved and reliable air access is essential as we continue to rebuild and grow our visitor economy. This expanded schedule gives Australian travellers greater flexibility when planning their holidays, whether they are looking for a longer escape or a shorter break in the Pacific,” Ms Aru said.

Matthew Findlay, Solomon Airlines CEO, said the second service reflected growing demand for the destination.

“The commencement of this second weekly service to Espiritu Santo is a strong vote of confidence in the destination,” Mr Findlay said.

Solomon Airlines operates twice weekly between Brisbane and Espiritu Santo using an A320 aircraft, departing Brisbane at 8:55am and arriving into Santo at 12:45pm local time.

Services will run Thursday and Saturday from now until June, transitioning to Tuesday and Thursday from July to January 2027.
