The AAT Kings A-LISTERS On Location famil of New Zealand’s South Island was an unforgettable experience filled with incredible highlights.

One standout was the TranzAlpine train journey, something I had long wanted to do. It absolutely lived up to expectations, offering fantastic views and a comfortable, memorable ride through some of New Zealand’s most picturesque landscapes.

A surprising discovery for me was the winery tour. Prior to this trip, I had little understanding of the winemaking process.

Visiting the wineries provided a fascinating insight into how wine is produced, from grape to glass. It gave me a new appreciation for the industry and the effort behind every bottle.

One of the most thrilling moments was the helicopter ride over Franz Josef Glacier. Soaring above the icy terrain with panoramic views of the mountains was absolutely awe-inspiring and unlike anything I’ve experienced before.

It’s difficult to choose just one favourite moment, but two that stand out are luging, which was pure fun and excitement, and the dinner at Walter Peak Station, which combined delicious food with a unique lakeside setting.

Speaking of food, New Zealand’s culinary offerings were a highlight in their own right. The freshness of the ingredients stood out and trying venison for the first time was a real treat – flavourful and beautifully prepared.

Being chosen to go on the A-LISTERS On Location famil is invaluable for professional development.

Experiencing a destination firsthand allows for a deeper understanding that can’t be gained through brochures or online research.

From gauging travel distances and understanding local weather, to experiencing dining and activities, being immersed in a location provides the best education for anyone working in travel or tourism.
