Luxury Escapes are about to launch the next big chapter in their evolution, but with the foresight that’s made them a success, they’re already planning further ahead.

At an event to promote new direct flights from Melbourne to the Maldives, company co-founder Adam Schwab revealed the next potential Aussie connection.

“We’re hoping to get a Sydney flight, assuming that the cost of airline fuel comes down and this war ends, hopefully soon,” he told a gathering of travel agents, suppliers and trade media at the company’s Bondi Junction store.

Discussions with airports (potentially the new Western Sydney facility) and partners are underway with the company revealing that residents of New South Wales have already snapped up 30 per cent of the seats for the upcoming charter service.

From May 18, Luxury Escapes will be offering exclusive, seasonal direct flights from Melbourne to Malé, operated by Maldivian Airlines on an Airbus A330-200.

The charter departs overnight from Melbourne and arrives in the Maldives early morning, timed so guests can reach their hotels by mid-morning. The return flight also leaves late evening, allowing travellers to enjoy a full final day before flying home.

The timing effectively gives customers up to two extra days in the destination compared with conventional routings.

Mr Schwab said the charter delivered the convenience of direct travel at a price comparable to premium indirect carriers while avoiding the long layovers typical of Middle Eastern and Asian connections.

“You’re getting exactly the same price for a direct flight, plus the bonus two days on site,” Mr Schwab said, also highlighting the attractive commission rates on Luxury Escapes travel packages to the destination of around 10% for agents.

Resort partners including Outrigger, Centara and Accor were keen to stress the range of accommodation options available in the Maldives, which is now accessible to a whole range of travellers.

“There’s more to the Maldives than just a flop and drop – we’re calling it the new Med,” said Glen Fitzpatrick, Luxury Escapes General Manager – Tours and Wholesale.

“There’s something there for everybody. It’s not just honeymooners – it’s families, solos and adventure travel.”
