Sydney will host the Southern Hemisphere’s largest international tourism tradeshow in 2027, with Tourism Australia confirming the return of the Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE) to NSW.

The event, known as ATE27, will bring together international travel buyers and Australian tourism operators to promote local experiences and secure future business across global markets.

More than 2,900 delegates from 32 countries attended this year’s exchange, highlighting the event’s importance to Australia’s tourism industry and inbound visitor economy.

ATE27 comes at a pivotal time for NSW tourism, ahead of the opening of Western Sydney International Airport later this year and as Australia prepares to host the Rugby World Cup in 2027.

The event is expected to showcase Sydney and regional NSW to influential global buyers, while reinforcing the state’s growing international aviation capacity, including expanded services at Newcastle Airport and record international travel figures at Sydney Airport.

Federal Tourism Minister Don Farrell said Sydney would provide a fitting backdrop for the nation’s premier tourism trade event.

“ATE is a fantastic event which saw more than 2900 delegates from 32 countries in 2026,” Farrell said.

“The Albanese Labor Government is proud to support Tourism Australia to deliver this important tourism tradeshow which provides so many opportunities for local businesses and local jobs.”

NSW Minister for Jobs and Tourism Steve Kamper said securing the event would support the state’s ambitious visitor economy targets.

“The Australian Tourism Exchange 2027 will showcase the incredible diversity of experiences our state has to offer to hundreds of local and international buyers,” Kamper said.

“Securing the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest international tourism tradeshow for NSW will play a key role in the Minns Labor Government achieving its goal of $91 billion in visitor economy expenditure by 2035.”

This year’s NSW delegation at ATE included 95 visitor economy operators, with representatives from Sydney and regional NSW, including Aboriginal tourism businesses and first-time exhibitors.

Tourism Australia Managing Director Robin Mack said the annual tradeshow continues to play a critical role in connecting Australian tourism experiences with international buyers.

“These face-to-face meetings have strengthened relationships to deliver a pipeline of forward-business that contributes to the continued sustainable growth of the Australian tourism sector,” Mack said.

ATE27 will be delivered by Tourism Australia in partnership with Destination NSW and hosted at ICC Sydney.
