One of Tasmania’s newest luxury wilderness experiences has earned global recognition after being named on TIME magazine’s ‘World’s Greatest Places 2026’ list.
On Board’s two-night Port Davey Highlights expedition was selected as one of the standout destinations and experiences for the year ahead. It was one of only four Australian inclusions on the list.
The compact expedition opens access to one of the most remote regions of Tasmania. Port Davey and Bathurst Harbour sit deep within the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, a vast protected landscape with no access roads, towns or hotels.

The journey begins with a scenic seaplane flight from Hobart into Bathurst Harbour. Guests then board Odalisque III, On Board’s floating wilderness lodge, which accommodates a maximum of 12 passengers.
Across three days, local Tasmanian guides lead walks and boat excursions through the rugged wilderness. Travellers can explore remote islands, visit Melaleuca and discover sites of Indigenous cultural significance.
Wildlife encounters are also part of the experience, with opportunities to spot seabirds, seals and the endangered orange bellied parrot.
Meals are prepared on board using Tasmanian produce and are paired with local wines, craft beers and spirits.
TIME compiles its annual World’s Greatest Places list through nominations from correspondents and contributors around the world. The final selection highlights destinations and experiences considered particularly innovative or noteworthy for travellers.
The Port Davey Highlights expedition offers a rare way to experience Tasmania’s remote southwest wilderness without committing to a longer expedition.
