Q: What kind of impact do you hope the new hotel will have now it’s open?
A: We want Crowne Plaza Melbourne Carlton to be a positive addition to Carlton’s innovation district, supporting the visitor economy and adding a new meeting place for people coming to the precinct’s universities, hospitals and businesses.
More than a place to stay, we hope the hotel becomes a hub that connects guests to the neighbourhood and reflects the energy of this part of Melbourne, through genuine service and a strong team culture.
Q: What type of guest does your hotel cater for?
A: We’re designed for business and corporate travellers, university and hospital visitors, and guests coming to Melbourne for events – people who want a premium, comfortable stay with great connectivity and a strong sense of place.
We also cater well for couples and weekend leisure travellers who want to be close to the CBD but based in a vibrant neighbourhood with great food, culture and easy access to the city.
Q: What are some of the stand out facilities that guests can enjoy?
A: Guests can expect modern, high-comfort rooms designed for great sleep and productivity, alongside spaces that support both downtime and connection.
We’re also set up strongly for meetings and small events, with contemporary technology and a service style that’s efficient, warm and professional – the Crowne Plaza hallmark.
And of course, our onsite signature Italian restaurant, Fico Carlton, is a key part of the experience, designed to be a destination in its own right.
Q: Tell us more about Fico?
A: Overlooking Lincoln Square and named after the fig trees that have long framed the park, Fico draws on Carlton’s historic heritage to deliver a contemporary take on Italian dining.
Fico is a modern bar and restaurant celebrating Carlton’s heritage through a contemporary lens with a focus on house-made pasta, quality seasonal produce and a welcoming atmosphere.
It’s designed for everything from a quick coffee or business catch-up to a long lunch, pre-event dining, or a special dinner. We want locals and guests alike to feel like Fico is “their place”.
Q: What is there for guests to do in the areas around your hotel?
A: We are perfectly positioned for guests visiting Melbourne University, RMIT and the nearby health precinct including the Royal Children’s Hospital and Royal Women’s Hospital.
The neighbourhood itself is one of Melbourne’s most character-filled – from Lygon Street’s iconic dining to galleries, parks and easy access into the CBD.
It’s an ideal base for work, study, events and exploring Melbourne’s culture and food scene.
Q: What sustainability initiatives does the hotel employ?
A: Sustainability is embedded into how we operate – not treated as a “nice to have”.
We’re aligned with IHG Green Engage and we’ve implemented practical initiatives including reducing single-use plastics, offering water bottle options, supporting more efficient energy and water use.
Our focus is on making responsible choices that are measurable, guest-friendly and part of our everyday culture.

Q: Finally, what sets your hotel apart from others in the Melbourne area?
A: It’s the combination of location, purpose and culture. We are located in the heart of Carlton’s innovation district, close to the institutions and precincts that bring people to Melbourne for meaningful reasons, and we’ve built a hotel experience designed around connection, confidence and care.
Add to that a standout dining offering with Fico, modern facilities and a team committed to doing things exceptionally well and you get a hotel that feels both premium and genuinely local.
