One of aviation’s most iconic journeys has returned, with Captain’s Choice recreating the historic Qantas Kangaroo Route from Sydney to London as an exclusive private jet experience.
Departing Sydney this week, the Captain’s Choice Pioneering Spirit of the Kangaroo Route follows the original eastbound path that shaped long haul travel between Australia and the United Kingdom. Flying aboard a Qantas A330 300, guests are tracing the legendary route with stops in Darwin, Singapore, Kolkata, Colombo, Cairo, Rome and Toulouse before arriving in London.

First flown in the 1930s, the Kangaroo Route earned its famous nickname in the 1940s, inspired by the multiple ‘hops’ required to cross continents. In 1947, Qantas completed the journey entirely under its own operation, taking four days, seven stops and carrying just 29 passengers on board a Lockheed Constellation.
Captain’s Choice has recreated that historic flight path almost exactly, while elevating the experience with luxury accommodation, curated cultural encounters and rare access along the way. Prices for the 14 day private jet journey start from around USD 49,950 per person, reflecting its all inclusive nature and limited availability.
The journey began with an exclusive welcome dinner at the Sydney Opera House’s Yallamundi Rooms, featuring insights from Dr Michael Ben Meir, CEO of the Royal Flying Doctor Service Victoria, and Wendy Miles, daughter of Qantas co founder Sir Wilmot Hudson Fysh, alongside a performance by the Qantas Girls Choir.
The following morning, guests were greeted at the gate by Qantas staff wearing vintage Emilio Pucci uniforms from the 1970s, a nod to the golden age of air travel. Travellers include couples and solo adventurers, many drawn by a lifelong passion for aviation history and classic routes.

Aviation heritage is woven throughout the journey, from an insider’s tour of an Airbus factory to a farewell dinner beneath the wings of Concorde.
Destination highlights include privileged access to the Singapore Airshow and a gala dinner at Gardens by the Bay, cultural immersion in Sri Lanka, a private dinner overlooking the Pyramids of Giza with rare access to the Sphinx and the Grand Egyptian Museum, and an after hours private tour of the Vatican Museums in Rome.
The Pioneering Spirit of the Kangaroo Route journey runs until 16 February 2026, offering a rare celebration of aviation history reimagined for modern travellers.
