I’m very excited to be travelling from Singapore on a direct flight to Brussels.

Singapore Airlines have been operating four direct flights to Brussels a week since March 2024 and I am one of 187 economy passengers aboard tonight.

It’s a chockers flight and I’ve already done the seven hours from Sydney so hoping to get some Zeds in.

My Seat

Economy class seats onboard the Singapore Airlines A350-900 are arranged in a 3-3-3 configuration. They have a pitch of 32″, measure 18″ wide and have a generous recline of six inches.

The padding on the seats is fairly thick, which makes long haul in economy a little comfier.

In terms of powering up our lifestyle devices, the seats are fitted with two USB-A outlets on the seat back in front and a universal power outlet underneath them.

The one thing I really like about the seat is the inclusion of a cup holder next to the personal TV, giving an alternate place to hold cups, giving extra space on your tray table. Genius!

There’s also a small coat hook above the USB-A outlets, to hang shopping bags  or coats.

Service and Food

Boarding is swift and we take off 15 minutes late. The Singapore Airlines crew are characteristically super welcoming and friendly. They are always attentive, professional and genuinely warm.

Drinks service commences as soon as the seatbelt sign is off, followed by a delicious spicy fish dinner. It’s light, tasty and has deterred me from slumber! Served with a zingy sav blanc and a naughty Haagen-Dazs ice cream.
 Entertainment

The KrisWorld entertainment system is a huge sleep deterrent, with scores of new movies, great TV series and box sets, and an easy touch screen operating system.

I’m excited to watch live sports as ‘The Demon’ (Alex de Minaur) is playing in the US Open.

He is one-set all when sleep overcomes me and the next thing I wake and hurrah, it’s only two hours till landing.

I opt for the Asian chicken stir fry which really wakes me and my palate up, washed down with a very good cup of tea. I manage to catch up with some work before landing.

Arrival in Brussels

We touch down at Brussels Airport 20 minutes ahead of schedule. Disembarkation is swift, luggage arrives promptly and I am through customs in record time.

The entire journey felt less like a long-haul slog and more like a well-choreographed travel experience.

Arriving early in the morning and having managed six hours of sleep, I’m ready for the day ahead.

Conclusion

Overall, economy on Singapore Airlines delivers what budget-minded long-haul travellers dream of but rarely get: a journey that feels civilised.

You won’t mistake it for business class, but you won’t stumble off feeling punished either.

Comfortable seats, abundant entertainment, tasty meals and quietly attentive service make the hours pass with unexpected ease.

For those who believe economy has to be an ordeal, Singapore Airlines provides a refreshing rebuttal at 35,000 feet.
