Go Insurance has unveiled its new War Disruption travel insurance solution, a first of its kind product in the Australian market.
The War & Armed Conflict Disruption Cover Extension offers travellers practical support if their trip is unexpectedly impacted by conflict while overseas.
It has been created in direct response to the current geopolitical climate and responds to increasing demand from travellers and travel agents for clearer, more relevant protection in an evolving global risk environment.
While traditional travel insurance policies have generally excluded claims arising from war or armed conflict, this extension introduces targeted, limited cover designed to address specific real-world scenarios.
The extension is structured in two parts:
Part A is automatically included with all policies at no additional cost. It provides medical and personal accident cover for travellers who are unexpectedly caught in war or armed conflict while overseas, including emergency medical assistance and repatriation where required.
Part B is an optional upgrade that covers additional travel and accommodation costs if a trip is disrupted by a new and unforeseen event. This includes expenses related to rerouting travel, securing alternative accommodation, or returning home early, with a benefit limit of up to $5,000 per person.
Importantly, the cover applies only to events that occur after a traveller has departed and that were not known or foreseeable prior to travel.
It does not include pre-departure cancellation cover for war-related events and excludes ongoing or existing conflicts.
Mark Fuller, CEO of Go Insurance, said the extension reflects a more practical and transparent approach to managing emerging travel risks.
“Travellers are increasingly aware of geopolitical risks, but traditional travel insurance hasn’t adapted to meet that reality,” said Mr Fuller.
“This extension provides meaningful, targeted support without trying to insure the uninsurable. It’s about helping people when their plans are disrupted, not attempting to cover war itself.”
The extension has also been designed with travel agents in mind, offering a straightforward and easy-to-explain solution that complements existing options such as Cancel For Your Reason (CFYR) and other add-on covers.
War & Armed Conflict Disruption Cover will be available across all cover levels, including single trip, annual multi-trip and group travel policies.
