Jetstar will make aviation history later this year when it operates the first commercial passenger flight from Western Sydney International Airport (WSI), as the Qantas Group unveils its initial route network from Sydney’s newest gateway.
The low-cost carrier will launch services from the airport on 25 October 2026, the day WSI officially opens, with flight JQ362 departing for the Gold Coast at 11am.
The announcement comes after the Qantas Group and Western Sydney International finalised a five-year agreement covering both passenger and freight operations, paving the way for future growth as demand across Western Sydney continues to expand.
Jetstar will operate up to 14 weekly return services between Western Sydney and Melbourne, alongside four weekly flights to the Gold Coast and three weekly services to Brisbane. All routes will be flown using Airbus A320 aircraft.
Qantas will follow in March 2027, launching QantasLink services from WSI on 28 March with four weekly flights to Melbourne and Brisbane operated by Embraer E190 aircraft.
The airport will also become an important freight hub for the national carrier. Qantas is set to commence cargo operations from WSI’s 24-hour Cargo Precinct on 27 July, making it one of the first commercial airlines to utilise the airport’s freight facilities.
The move marks a significant milestone for Western Sydney International Airport, which is expected to boost connectivity for one of Australia’s fastest-growing regions while providing travellers with an alternative gateway to Sydney.
With both Jetstar and Qantas committed to expanding operations as demand grows, the airport is poised to play an increasingly important role in Australia’s domestic aviation network.
