A new 12 day Kyrgyzstan itinerary has been launched as Australian travellers show greater interest in slower travel, smaller group experiences and destinations outside established touring routes.
The Spirit of Kyrgyzstan journey travels through alpine regions, lakes and remote communities, with visits to Jeti Ögüz, Issyk Kul Lake and Karakol. Travellers will also stay in a traditional yurt camp, visit mineral hot springs and learn to prepare borsook, a fried dough associated with local hospitality.
According to Wendy Wu Tours’ The Journey Ahead report, 58% of Australians now prefer slower and more immersive holidays. The operator said shorter itineraries could help agents introduce Central Asia to clients who may not have time for an extended regional journey.
Sonia Orrego, Wendy Wu Tours Australia Head of Product, said group travel was helping travellers consider destinations they might otherwise find difficult to plan independently.
“People want to slow down, spend more time in a destination and come home with stories, not just a checklist of places they’ve visited,” Ms Orrego said.
