An exciting new era in Australian air travel kicks off today with the first tickets for the country’s new 24-hour gateway now on sale.

Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport’s (WSI) inaugural international tickets from Singapore Airlines are now available online.

Simon Hickey, WSI CEO, said it was an historic moment for everyone who’s played a role in bringing the facility to life – Australia’s first international greenfield airport in more than 50 years.

“We mark a terrific milestone moment today with our first international airline partner, Skytrax certified 5-Star carrier Singapore Airlines, now giving passengers the first opportunity to book tickets from Western Sydney International Airport,” he said.

“Not only will WSI increase aviation capacity in the Sydney basin, giving travelling more choice and flexibility on when, where and how they choose to fly – our 24-hour services will unlock new routes with Singapore Airlines for everyone across Greater Sydney to enjoy.

Singapore Airlines will operate daily non-stop flights from November 23 that will depart WSI just before midnight, with passengers arriving at the award-winning Changi Hub around 5am – offering a new era of global connectivity.

“We’re delighted to be partnering with a global top-tier carrier in Singapore Airlines, with whom we share a deep commitment to offering our customers a safe, modern, seamless travel experience supported by the latest innovations and technologies via our state-of-the-art terminal,” added Mr Hickey.

Singapore Airlines’ inaugural services from WSI comprise:

  • A daily non-stop flight between Singapore and WSI, beginning on November 23
  • The service will depart Singapore at 11.30am (local time) and arrive at WSI at 10.20pm (local time)
  • The service will then depart WSI on the same day at 11.55pm and arrive in Singapore at 5.05am (local time) the following morning
  • The daily services will operate on Airbus A350-900 medium-haul aircraft, which features 303 seats in two cabin classes: 40 in business class and 263 in economy

Mr Dai Haoyu, Senior Vice President Marketing Planning, Singapore Airlines, said the new services will deliver more choice and strengthen connectivity for the airline’s customers.

“Singapore Airlines’ services to Australia’s newest gateway at Western Sydney will deliver more choice and strengthen connectivity to this popular destination for our customers,” he added.

“Western Sydney’s late-night departure capacity will enable a seamless travel journey and connections through Singapore Changi Airport, to more than 130 global destinations served by the SIA Group.”

“The State Government’s investments are helping to realise the enormous potential of our state’s visitor economy, and this is an important milestone towards achieving our ambitious goal of $91 billion in annual visitor expenditure by 2035,” added Steve Kamper, NSW Minister for Jobs and Tourism.

# Meanwhile Singapore Airlines has also announced it will be restoring its flagship A380 to Melbourne from March 29. The airline will restore A380 services seasonally through to October, swapping out the smaller Boeing 777-300ER currently on the SQ228 and SQ237 services.

The A380 last operated on the Singapore to Melbourne route during the northern summer 2023 season. The airline now operates three daily A380 services to Australia, with two to Sydney and one to Melbourne, reinforcing capacity to the region during elevated demand.
