Cruise passengers are helping fund accommodation for families whose children are receiving treatment at Sydney Children’s Hospital.

Donations raised through Conga for Kids deck parties aboard Carnival Cruise Line sailings have funded a dedicated one-bedroom apartment as part of Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation’s new Patient Family Accommodation Program.

The program is designed to support families travelling from regional NSW and Sydney’s outer suburbs who might otherwise face long commutes or additional accommodation costs while their child is in hospital.

Families can stay free of charge at the new Scape Lachlan Building in Kensington, located close to the hospital.

The apartment provides access to workspaces, outdoor areas, a pool, laundry facilities and a 24-hour concierge.

Caroline Bourke, Carnival Cruise Line Assistant Vice President Guest Operations, said passenger donations were providing practical support when families needed it most.

“We host the Conga for Kids party on every voyage in Australia. I know our guests sailing from Sydney will be delighted to see how their generosity is helping families stay close to their children while they receive the care they need,” Ms Bourke said.

Guests can support Conga for Kids by purchasing a $20 t-shirt on Carnival cruises departing Sydney and Brisbane, with funds supporting Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation and Queensland Children’s Hospital Foundation.
