Murray River Paddlesteamers has announced September 18 as the launch date of Australia’s first five-star overnight river vessel, Australian Star.
Set to debut at the historic Victorian river port of Echuca, PS Australian Star will offer three-, four- and seven-night cruises year-round along the Murray River. The 38 guest vessel is the world’s only five-star accommodated paddlesteamer.

The inaugural three-night sailing will depart Echuca, followed by a year round program combining river cruising with excursions to farms, wineries and heritage towns.
Designed to reference a 19th century paddlesteamer while incorporating modern facilities, Australian Star features air conditioned staterooms, a lounge, restaurant and multiple outdoor areas.
The vessel uses a hybrid diesel and steam propulsion system incorporating an original 1907 wood fired steam engine. Its development received funding through the Victorian Government’s Regional Tourism Investment Fund.
Murray River Paddlesteamers has also released the ship’s full 2028 program, with early booking savings of $250 per person available on three-, four- and seven-night cruises booked by September 30.

After the saving, 2028 twin share fares start from $3,125 per person for three nights, $4,255 for four nights and $6,915 for seven nights.
Seven night bookings made during the early booking period also include a pre-cruise night at the Mercure Port of Echuca.
Fares include return V/Line rail travel between Melbourne and Echuca, meals, daily excursions, transfers, Wi-Fi, gratuities and selected drinks.
The operator is part of APT Travel Group and offers travel advisors 10% commission.
