Following more than two years of planning, guests aboard three expedition yachts experienced this month’s total solar eclipse from locations across the Mediterranean, Iceland and the North Atlantic.

Atlas Ocean Voyages positioned World Traveller, World Navigator and World Voyager along different routes to give passengers opportunities to view the event from the sea.

World Traveller observed the eclipse off Palma de Mallorca while sailing towards Ibiza, while World Navigator was positioned near Patreksfjörður in Iceland. World Voyager viewed the event while sailing between Greenland and Iceland.

James A. Rodriguez, Atlas Ocean Voyages President and CEO, said planning for the eclipse voyages began more than two years ago.

“To see that planning come together across three of our yachts, with our guests gathered on deck sharing this once-in-a-lifetime moment, is incredibly rewarding,” Mr Rodriguez said.

Onboard programming in the lead-up to the eclipse included astronomy sessions explaining the science and significance of the event, while guests were provided with solar viewing protection for the observation.

The line is already planning further astronomy focused departures.

An eight-night ‘Solar Eclipse Expedition’ aboard World Traveller will sail from Barcelona to Lisbon on July 27, 2027, with an astronomy expert onboard to provide commentary and interpretation.

Further ahead, Atlas Adventurer is scheduled to feature a total lunar eclipse during its 14-night ‘Jewels of Southeast Asia’ voyage from Bangkok to Bali departing December 23, 2028.

The yacht is expected to be in Singapore for the eclipse shortly after midnight as guests welcome 2029.
