A group of Australian travel agents and product managers have enjoyed an exclusive famil highlighting the diverse tourism experiences of Taiwan.
The trip was organised by the Sydney-based Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA) and China Airlines, designed to showcase the country’s rich cultural heritage, spectacular landscapes and premium hospitality offerings.
The educational journey brought together representatives from travel companies including Wendy Wu Tours, Intrepid, Connected Travel, V Travel, Webjet, The Ultimate Traveller, Travel Managers, Adventure Aboard and FC Travelwise.
The delegation was hosted by the TTA team, including Ganessan Suppiah and Stacy Ong, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Taiwan’s presence in the Australian market and inspire new travel product development.
The famil commenced in northern Taiwan with an immersive cultural experience in Yingge, Taiwan’s renowned ceramics capital.
Participants took part in a hands-on pottery workshop, creating their own ceramic pieces while gaining insight into the town’s centuries-old pottery traditions.
The group also explored the historic Sanxia Qingshui Zushi Temple and nearby Sanxia Old Street, where intricate stone carvings, traditional architecture and local heritage offered a glimpse into Taiwan’s rich spiritual and cultural history.
One of the highlights of the itinerary was the scenic rail journey from Hualien to Yilan along Taiwan’s spectacular east coast.
Delegates were treated to views of dramatic mountains, rugged coastlines and the Pacific Ocean, showcasing why Taiwan’s east coast is considered one of Asia’s most memorable rail experiences.
In Hualien, the delegation enjoyed an immersive visit to the Dageeli Indigenous Village (above), including traditional indigenous cuisine, cultural presentations, costume experiences and a lively mochi pounding activity.
The experience provided valuable insight into Taiwan’s Indigenous heritage and authentic community tourism offerings.
In Yilan, delegates participated in a unique “market-to-table” culinary experience, exploring a traditional local market before engaging in hands-on food preparation using fresh regional ingredients.
The itinerary also included a visit to the National Center for Traditional Arts, where participants experienced Taiwan’s living cultural heritage through artisan workshops, traditional performances and beautifully preserved architecture.
The famil concluded in Taipei, where delegates explored some of Taiwan’s most recognised landmarks, including the Taipei 101 Observatory, offering panoramic city views from one of the world’s tallest skyscrapers, and the iconic Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall.
The group also visited the energetic Ximending District, famous for youth culture, fashion and street entertainment, alongside the historic Grand Hotel Taipei, renowned for its striking palace-style architecture and cultural significance.
A special highlight was the Grand Hotel’s exclusive West Secret Tunnel Tour, providing a fascinating glimpse into Taiwan’s modern history.
A dedicated Taiwan–Australia Trade Meeting was also held during the famil, providing valuable opportunities for industry collaboration, product discussions and future partnership development between Taiwanese tourism stakeholders and Australian travel professionals.
Taiwan Tourism Administration continues to work closely with the Australian travel trade to expand awareness, develop new itineraries and strengthen Taiwan’s position as one of Asia’s most compelling travel destinations for Aussie travellers.
