Adelaide Airport has welcomed its first Malaysia Airlines A330neo after a successful debut flight from Kuala Lumpur.
Following the arrival of MH139, a joint welcome event was held attended by Malaysia Airlines representatives and key stakeholders, followed by a tour of the new aircraft.
The new aircraft follows an increase on the Adelaide – Kuala Lumpur service from five flights per week to daily flights in February, creating more than 60,000 additional seats per year between the two cities.
“The inaugural A330neo service between Kuala Lumpur and Adelaide represents a strategic milestone for Malaysia Airlines, underscoring strong market confidence in our next generation fleet and premium proposition,” said Bryan Foong, Chief Executive Officer of Airline Business from Malaysia Aviation Group.
“It reflects our continued focus on fleet modernisation, sustainable aviation and delivering a consistently elevated customer experience anchored in Malaysian hospitality, while strengthening connectivity between Malaysia and Australasia.”
The A330neo is configured with 28 business class and 269 economy seats, including 24 seats with extra legroom.
It is 25 per cent more fuel-efficient than older models, with lower emissions, quieter engines and a more comfortable cabin.
The business class cabin features spacious suites with high walls and privacy doors to create a personal ‘mini suite’.
“Today’s new aircraft launch reinforces Malaysia Airlines’ longstanding commitment to our market,” said Dermot O’Neill, Adelaide Airport Executive General Manager People, Culture and Customer.
“It’s a wonderful outcome for South Australians travelling to Malaysia and beyond, and to the overseas visitors travelling to Adelaide using the airline’s extensive route network.”
In a double celebration, Adelaide has been named ‘Best Airport in Asia’ at an international aviation conference in China.
It was crowned the overall winner at the Routes Asia 2026 Awards as well as winning in the five-20 million passengers category for a second successive year.
“This achievement is a testament to the trust and support of our airline friends, whose collaboration continues to fuel Adelaide’s remarkable growth and enhance our city’s presence on the global map,” said Jonathan Cheong, Adelaide Airport Head of Aviation Business Development and Commercial.
