I couldn’t have asked for a better location to base myself for my first-ever visit to Richmond in Virginia.
The Linden Row Inn has character in abundance.
The 70-room boutique historic hotel provides all the comforts of a decent hotel with the old-school vibe you’d expect from its impressive exterior.
The land on which the property sits has history intertwined with the city going as far back as 1811. The building, as it stands now, was restored in 1988, becoming a full-service inn.
The building has kept its original architecture, with most rooms featuring authentic antiques from the mid to late 1800s.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the property is considered one of the finest surviving examples of Greek Revival row architecture in the country.
Guests can unwind in the intimate garden courtyard, a serene space perfect for relaxing with a book or enjoying a quiet moment.
For those travelling on business or hosting small gatherings, the inn features a boardroom suitable for meetings and private events.
The inn also provides a full dining experience at its on-site restaurant, Evermore Garden Bistro.
Art enthusiasts will appreciate the rotating satellite exhibitions in the Parlour Lobby, presented in partnership with 1708 Gallery.
Additional amenities include complimentary high-speed internet and access to the Fitness on Demand app, allowing guests to enjoy in-room workouts at their convenience.
Situated in the vibrant heart of downtown Richmond, the hotel places guests within easy reach of the city’s cultural, historic and recreational highlights.
Visitors can explore the literary treasures of the Poe Museum, take in world-class art at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, or enjoy performances at the Altria Theater.
For outdoor enthusiasts, the area offers scenic spots like Brown’s Island and Belle Isle, as well as the Virginia Capital Trail for walking or cycling.
Families and nature lovers can spend time at Maymont Park, a sprawling estate with gardens, wildlife and historic attractions, making the location ideal for both sightseeing and leisurely adventures.
I found the staff to be exceptionally friendly and interested in conversation. Check-in was over within seconds and the all-important Wi-Fi was explained clearly.
There’s also a friendly four-legged resident that may just be this hotel’s secret weapon, but I won’t let the cat out of the bag with that surprise!
The large bed was also a lovely surprise and the room felt homely and very much of its era.
There’s plenty to do within walking distance of the property. But if your destinations are a bit further away, or it’s too hot for a long walk, then the city is well-served by apps such as Uber or Lyft.
