A top level meeting involving the tourism bodies of Australia, New Zealand and Fiji has led to a “maturing of the relationship” between the three countries.
The Australian Travel Industry Association (ATIA) and the Travel Agents’ Association of New Zealand (TAANZ) issued a joint statement following the meeting in Fiji.
Those in attendance included ATIA Chief Executive Officer Dean Long, TAANZ Chief Executive Officer Julie White and Fijian tourism and government representatives.
The meeting focused on the future of tourism cooperation between Australia, New Zealand and Fiji as the Fijian Government works through changes to its tourism settings.
ATIA and TAANZ said today’s discussions mark a maturing of the relationship between the three countries and reflect a shared respect for the value of the trade between them.
Both associations said they expect today’s meeting to be the first of further announcements as the countries work to strengthen ties across the tourism sector and welcomed the prospect of a more regular dialogue between their respective governments and tourism industries in the years ahead.
“This is a maturing of the relationship between Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. It’s a sign of respect for the value of the trade between us, and an elevated step in how our three countries work together,” the joint statement from ATIA and TTANZ read.
“We see today’s meetings as the first of many, and we’re looking forward to further announcements as we continue to strengthen ties between Fiji, Australia and New Zealand.
“Fiji’s tourism sector matters to travellers and businesses across both our countries and we’re committed to working alongside our Fijian counterparts to build a stronger, more regular dialogue in the years ahead.”
