Renowned mountaineer and philanthropist Peter Hillary will join selected Alaska and Antarctica expeditions in 2027, sharing stories from a lifetime of exploration while travelling alongside guests.
The son of Sir Edmund Hillary, Mr Hillary has taken part in more than 50 mountaineering expeditions, including five on Mount Everest, completed the Seven Summits and skied to the South Pole.
He has also completed a 5,000-kilometre traverse of the Himalayas and joined his father and Neil Armstrong on an aviation expedition to the North Pole.
His 2027 program will include two Alaska itineraries in May, exploring the Inside Passage, Hubbard Glacier, Endicott Arm and Prince Rupert, followed by an Antarctica sailing in December aboard National Geographic Explorer.
The Antarctica Direct itinerary will sail the Drake Passage in one direction before returning by air.
Natalya Leahy, Lindblad Expeditions CEO, said Mr Hillary would add another dimension to the onboard experience through dedicated conversations and informal interactions with guests.
“Peter embodies that beautifully. His extraordinary life of exploration and the legacy of the Hillary family will add an incredibly meaningful dimension to these journeys,” Ms Leahy said.
Mr Hillary said the spirit of discovery had shaped much of his life, from the Himalayas to the polar regions.
“I look forward to sharing some of those experiences with guests and hearing about their own connections to, and passions for, exploration as we travel together,” Mr Hillary said.
Beyond mountaineering, Mr Hillary is Chairperson of the Himalayan Trust, continuing his family’s philanthropic work supporting education, health and environmental programs in Nepal’s Mount Everest region.
