It’s safe to say that we were completely and utterly spoilt during our time in Los Angeles.

From beautiful hotels to decadent food to exploring all the hot spots. In five very short yet jam packed days the LA Tourism board truly showcased their diverse and thriving city to us and I couldn’t get enough.

The Front Yard and Garland Hotel were like entering a time warp in the best possible way. The 70s Aztec/retro cool decor is so unique and refreshing in a modern world.

The food at the Front Yard was delicious and the warm cosy ambience was a perfect way to start an uncharacteristically gloomy LA morning.

This famous piece of LA is a perfect escape for those travellers who don’t want to be in the limelight of Hollywood Blvd, but still only a short trolley ride away from Universal Studios.

Universal Studios is a must do in LA for the thrill seekers and movie lovers. If you’re wanting the ultimate Universal experience then the VIP pass is a game changer and will maximise your time by keeping the thrills coming all day, as you zip to the front of the line for all the rides as many times as you can stomach.

You’ll also be showered with other little perks like arrival breakfast, scrumptious buffet lunch in the VIP dining room, your own Universal guide for the day (if you’re lucky you may get the vivacious Danielle!) and an extended studio tour where you can hop off the trolley and immerse yourselves in the outdoor sets and experience the magic behind the movies.

The greatest part about any educational trip is experiencing new destinations by diving head first into places you’re not familiar with.

After a refreshing ferry ride from San Pedro you will be rewarded with the island paradise of Catalina Island and WOW did it surpass the expectation.

This strikingly beautiful island, which could easily be described as Key West meets the Mediterranean Islands, really packs a punch of boutique shopping, gourmet restaurants, turquoise waters and pops of colour all through the port village of Avalon.

The small yet charming island is perfect for sun lovers, divers, seafood enthusiasts and those who just want to relax and unwind. Whether you are an international traveller or a Cali local Catalina is just the spot.

If you’re a shameless foodie and love to explore, take a trip to the Grand Central Markets in Downtown LA (DTLA).

Follow your nose around the laneways of the markets and immerse yourself in the local cuisine from rising stars in LA’s vibrant food scene. You’ll be treated to whatever your tummy desires! From Thai to tacos and pizza’s to pastries.

You’ll not only find other tourists here but the markets are also a hot spot for local Angelinas alike. The market first opened its doors in 1917 and quickly became a familiar landmark in the City of Angels.

For the trend setters out there be sure to have Level 8 in DTLA at the very top of your list. Journey to eight distinct and unique experiences located directly opposite Crypto Arena.

Eight venues with immersive discoveries around each corner, from French, Japanese and South American restaurants, a Copacabana inspired pool deck with outdoor carousel bar, confessional church/Nacho Libre wresting style nightclub, gourmet Mexican food truck and hidden speak easy.

There are no other words to describe Level 8 other than INSTAWORTHY!

For some local colour, take in the small vibrant beachside community that is Hermosa Beach, known for its laid back California lifestyle, excellent surf and friendly vibes.

Take a stroll or skate along the boardwalk, get your Top Gun juices flowing with a game of beach volleyball or enjoy a day in the surf.

Pier Ave and Downtown offers an array of boutique shops, cafes and restaurants. Spend a few nights here for the ultimate California beach experience. And where better to stay than the Beach House positioned right on the beachfront. You can’t get any closer than that!

Hermosa Beach is only a few kilometres down the Pacific Coast Highway from LAX, making it a great place to beat the jet lag by spending a few days at the beach to get on California time.

LA Tourism, Infinity Holidays and Fiji Airways went above and beyond to ensure we experienced the very best of LA and had some treasured experiences and stories to share.

I can positively say that Los Angeles holds a special place for all of us.
