Louis Hanson, a Melbourne-based actor and comedian, recently shared on TikTok how he was hit with a staggering $400 bill after sending a small load of laundry at his New York hotel.

“I just handed over a few pairs of socks, some underwear, tank tops, and workout clothes — the basics,” Louis explained. “Then I got the bill and thought, ‘Whoa!’ They charged me $7 per pair of socks. That alone was nearly $50.”

Despite the shock, Louis admits it was his oversight for not checking the laundry prices upfront. “They did an excellent job, but I should have looked at the menu before giving them my clothes.”

The story struck a chord with other travellers, many of whom shared their own hotel laundry horror stories, including charges as high as $25 per T-shirt.
