Pacific Resort Rarotonga is located in Muri on the eastern side of the island, an area widely regarded as having the most beautiful lagoon on Rarotonga. Here, the lagoon is at its widest and calmest, protected by a reef that creates exceptionally clear, shallow water.
Small islets dot the lagoon, giving the view a layered, almost tropical postcard quality. The water feels like a giant natural swimming pool, making it one of the best spots on the island for swimming, snorkelling, kayaking and paddleboarding.
We stayed in a first floor beachfront suite with a large balcony overlooking the beach and lagoon.
The balcony was the standout feature of the room, furnished with extremely comfortable bean bag sunbeds as well as a table and chairs.
It was the perfect place to relax in the shade while still feeling completely immersed in the view, and we spent far more time here than inside.
Inside, the room was spacious and well designed, with a marble bathroom featuring his and hers sinks, plenty of towels, tea and coffee making facilities, a king bed and an additional single bed.
Everything felt thoughtfully laid out and quietly luxurious without being showy.
A genuinely practical highlight was the shared washing machine and dryer located close to our room, free to use. This was especially useful for rinsing and drying swimmers before travel and is a small detail that makes a big difference on a beach focused holiday.
The view from the balcony
The lagoon itself is the reason people choose to stay in Muri. It offers a vast, safe area to swim and play, and the islets are easily reachable by kayak or paddleboard. Even if your intention is to do very little, the setting naturally draws you onto the water.
While Pacific Resort Rarotonga is family friendly and offers a complimentary kids club, the overall atmosphere remains boutique and calm rather than busy or noisy. The layout of the resort and the scale of the property help maintain a sense of space and tranquillity.
One of the highlights of our stay was an outdoor dinner beside the beach, lit by string lights and flame torches. The setting was undeniably special, but what stood out most was that the food lived up to the location. It was the best meal we had across all the hotels on this trip, both in quality and execution, which is not always the case with resort dining.
We left early the following morning and did not have the opportunity to try the breakfast buffet, although it is included for most guests and is well regarded.
Pacific Resort Rarotonga is a luxury property, and it comes with a corresponding price tag.
What stands out is that the experience feels commensurate with the cost, from the exceptional Muri lagoon setting to the generous balcony rooms and standout dining.
For travellers seeking a refined, beachfront stay where quality, comfort and location genuinely align, it delivers on what it promises.
