Intrepid Travel and UN Global Compact Network Australia are partnering to bring senior business leaders to Türkiye ahead of COP31 to explore practical climate action.

Dr Susanne Etti, the company’s General Manager Climate, will attend the summit and support a five-day leadership program for senior Australian business figures.

COP31, the 31st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), is the world’s largest climate change conference.

It brings together governments, businesses, investors and civil society to accelerate the global transition to clean energy, advance adaptation and keep the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C temperature goal within reach

The program will take executives, board directors and sustainability leaders through Antalya and Kaş, combining workshops with community-based experiences exploring the effects of climate change on businesses and destinations.

COP31 will be held in Antalya from November 9 to 20, with Türkiye hosting the conference and Australia serving as President of Negotiations.

Dr Etti said the travel industry needed to focus on practical action, including reducing supply chain emissions, managing climate risks and supporting local communities.

“Climate change is already reshaping destinations and disrupting travel, so we can’t afford to treat it as a future risk,” Dr Etti said.

“At COP31, I’m keen to see how we turn global commitments into practical action for businesses and the communities they rely on.

“For travel, that means reducing emissions, preparing for climate risks and working alongside local communities to protect the places that make travel possible.”

The company will also use the summit to engage with tourism businesses on decarbonisation and climate resilience, particularly the role larger operators can play in helping smaller suppliers access knowledge, tools and support.

Intrepid launched a renewed Climate Action Plan in 2025, backed by a $2 million annual Climate Impact Fund supporting decarbonisation projects, lower-emissions transport and supplier initiatives.
