A new five suite luxury camp will open directly on Bolivia’s Salar de Uyuni in late 2027, giving travellers an overnight accommodation option on the world’s largest salt flat.
Samkani Camp will be operated by A&K Sanctuary and built entirely from Airstreams, with five architect designed suites and a sixth Airstream forming the central dining and lounge area.
The camp will be positioned around 20 to 30 kilometres from other human activity, offering guests direct access to the salt flat’s changing landscapes, which range from dry hexagonal salt patterns to reflective conditions during wetter periods.

Each self contained suite will feature interiors using blue Bolivian marble and chrome detailing, while the central Airstream will include a dining area and bar.
The camp takes its name from the Aymara word “Samkani”, meaning “the one who dreams”, referencing the expansive night skies visible across the Altiplano.
Each stay will include a private guide and driver, with more than 30 experiences available across the region. Activities will include visits to remote islands and volcanic caves, along with stargazing beneath the southern night sky.

A&K said the design draws on its experience with low impact mobile camps in Africa, adapted for the exposed conditions of the Bolivian salt flats.
Samkani Camp will be available as part of selected tailor made and small group journeys to Bolivia, with an on sale date to be announced.
