Elements of Byron has long been one of Australia’s most recognised luxury resorts. But beyond the lagoon pool and Belongil Beach frontage lies another side to the property, shaped by large-scale reforestation, native wildlife conservation and a few unexpected guest obsessions.
It has one of Byron Bay’s largest private reforestation projects
More than 200,000 trees have been planted across the 50-acre property, establishing a functioning rainforest ecosystem that now supports native wildlife including Buff-banded Rail birds, commonly spotted nesting near the villas and foraging around the lagoon pool.
There’s a breakfast staple with a cult following
For many families, the most memorable part of breakfast isn’t the spread at Azure Bar and Grill. It’s the automatic pancake maker, where children gather each morning to watch fresh pancakes roll out one by one in what has become one of the resort’s most unexpectedly talked-about details.
Solar and battery systems offset up to 60% of monthly power usage
The resort’s environmental approach extends into the kitchen, with more than 100kg of native Davidson plums harvested from the grounds this season alone, woven throughout seasonal dishes alongside other locally sourced ingredients.
A rescued native beehive is now part of the rainforest tours
Resident naturalist Alastair Oakman discovered a hive of native stingless bees inside a dying tree, carefully relocated the colony within the resort grounds and now introduces guests to the thriving hive on guided rainforest walks. The resort also harvests its own honey.
There’s a self-guided meditation trail hidden throughout the property
A new meditation journey winds through the resort’s four distinct ecosystems, with dedicated stopping points designed for grounding and stillness. Families can also follow the Fairy Trail in search of hidden fantasy characters, while nature lovers can explore a dedicated birdwatching trail with a spotting map from reception.
The “princess treatment” is simply part of the stay
Complimentary inclusions are built into every visit, from sunrise yoga and guided rainforest walks to buggy transport, EV charging, sunscreen stations and live surf-feed TVs so guests can check the waves without leaving bed.
